Globules – what makes these little balls so popular?
The so-called globules are among the homeopathic remedies. Many doctors and alternative practitioners prescribe the white globules precisely because they have a very gentle effect. For this reason, they are equally popular with patients. In addition, the ingredients are based on natural ingredients. The globules from DHU are also lactose and gluten free. This is particularly beneficial for allergy sufferers or patients with a diagnosed intolerance.
What are globules?
But what exactly is behind these medicinal globules? The term globules is derived from the Latin word "globulus". This simply means "little globule". Globules are white in color and very small. Their main component is sucrose, i.e. sugar. Depending on the effect, the sucrose is then provided with a so-called homeopathically potentiated active ingredient or an active ingredient complex. There are a large number of active ingredients that can be used in the production process. The majority of these substances are plant-based. In addition, there are also active ingredients that have a mineral content or are of animal origin.
The production
The processing of a globule is subject to a strictly controlled regulation, the HAB or Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia. The 10th regulation of the HAB applies to the manufacture of the medicine. This says something about the composition or the mixing ratio of a globule. For 100 globules, 1 percent dilution is permitted. The liquid dilution contains the desired potency. At the same time, this potency must have a minimum alcohol content of 60%. This is followed by impregnation. For this, a coating pan is used, into which the globules are placed along with the potency. A rotation is used so that all the globules are provided with the active ingredient equally using a precise application process. Overall, the globules can be produced in different sizes. Size 3 is common, in which the common C and D potencies are applied. A globule has an average weight of 8 mg and a diameter of around 2 mm. Globules are just one way of introducing a dilution. There are also liquid forms, tablet forms or preparations for targeted external use such as creams, ointments or tinctures.
The effect of the globules
Homeopathy has its own theories about how people can be cured and how diseases can best be fought. The main focus is on the body's own healing powers. Homeopathy also recognizes that every patient is an individual with personal needs. For this reason, treatment does not only consider the clinical picture and its symptoms, but also the personality with its characteristics and living conditions. This assessment is carried out by a naturopath or a doctor who practices homeopathy. The principle of homeopathy was founded by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann. He coined the thesis "Simila similibus curentur", which means "like cures like". According to his theory, substances that cause certain symptoms in a healthy person can cure a similar symptom in a sick patient.
The Potencies in Homeopathy
Potentiation is a central area of homeopathy. This means preparing a medicine by diluting and shaking it. This process produces a different result than would be the case with pure dilution. The difference lies primarily in the step-by-step procedure. A specific potency can be achieved for each step or level. The most common potencies are C and D. D is the abbreviation for decimal and C for centesimal. The D potency has a dilution ratio of 1:10. The C potency, on the other hand, has a mixing ratio of 1:100. Homeopathic medicines that are used for self-medication should always be taken in a low potency. Potencies D6 and D12 are particularly recommended here. Questions about suitable potencies can be asked to the treating doctor, alternative practitioner or pharmacist.
The complex remedy vs. individual remedies
Both of these forms are part of homeopathy. A single remedy is a medicine that contains only one active ingredient. A complex remedy, on the other hand, contains several active ingredients, but at least two. Both forms of administration are suitable for self-medication.
Application
To ensure that globules have the best possible effect, they should be taken either 30 minutes before or after eating. It should be noted that the active ingredients enter the body via the oral mucosa while still in the mouth. It is therefore recommended not to swallow the globules like a tablet, but to let them dissolve slowly in the mouth. Care should be taken not to come into direct contact with essential oils. This is especially true for camomile, peppermint or camphor. You should therefore wait at least half an hour before brushing your teeth. Drinks containing caffeine also have a counterproductive effect and should not be consumed immediately. This includes coffee and tea as well as lemonade.
Gobuli are not miracle cures
Basically, you should be aware that the effects of globules are limited and that you should always consider the symptoms and symptoms. Everyday ailments in particular can be easily managed with globules. The pellets can also be used as a complementary remedy without any problems.
pregnancy and breastfeeding
Overall, the number of side effects when taking globules is fairly limited. The globules are considered to be very well tolerated. Nevertheless, pregnant women and nursing mothers should contact their doctor before taking the medicine to clarify whether it is safe to take it. The same applies if you want to treat a newborn or baby with globules. In addition to the doctor, pharmacist or alternative practitioner, the midwife can also help here. In addition, you should always take a look at the package insert.
Globuli and diabetes mellitus
The question of tolerability is obvious, as the globules consist mainly of sugar. However, if you convert the values into bread units, it becomes clear that globules are safe for diabetics. This is illustrated by the following calculation:
1 bread unit (BU) corresponds to 12 g carbohydrates
1 globule has 0.00069 BU and at the same time 0.0082 g carbohydrates at 0.034 kcal. To achieve 1 bread unit, a quantity of 1,450 globules would have to be consumed.
In principle, however, you should always consider the individual reaction of your body. If you notice unusual signs and symptoms, you should consult a doctor. This is especially true if the symptoms are very severe or have been going on for a while. You should also seek advice from a doctor if the desired effect does not occur or if the symptoms even get worse.
Small digression
The term "homeopathy" is a protected term. In Germany alone, over 7,000 doctors practice under the additional title of homeopathy. However, this additional title cannot simply be added. Special training is required beforehand, as well as an examination by the state medical association. This examines the doctor's practical and theoretical skills. Without this training, no homeopathic treatment can be carried out. In addition, it is necessary to be able to show that you have completed a medical degree and have also completed specialist training.
