Chlorine dioxide has a technical use in drinking-water disinfection. This does not make it suitable for ingestion as a health product. This article separates general water treatment from the documents available for Natur Total CDL 0.3% and explains what biocide notification N-108359 does—and does not—establish.
Use biocides safely. Always read the label and product information before use.
Chlorine dioxide in drinking-water treatment
The use is documented beyond advertising: Stadtwerke Bonn states in its drinking-water FAQ that chlorine dioxide is added at the waterworks as a final treatment step. This is a specific example of technical use in a public water supply, not evidence that the utility uses or recommends the Natur Total product. Source: Stadtwerke Bonn, drinking-water FAQ
In Germany, the Federal Environment Agency maintains the list of permitted treatment substances and disinfection processes under section 20 of the Drinking Water Ordinance. Each application must meet the applicable substance and process requirements. General use of an active substance does not amount to blanket approval of every bottle containing it. What notification N-108359 establishes
The supplied notification data sheet identifies drinking water as the product type. It explicitly states that neither efficacy nor safety has been assessed by the authorities under the transitional arrangements. The registration number therefore documents a notification; it is not a certification mark or a general authorisation certificate.
Whether a specific product may currently be supplied and used for a particular application requires checking the applicable conditions. This article does not infer any further current confirmation of marketability from the document dated 1 July 2026. Further information: BAuA notification procedure for biocidal products
0.3% is not the concentration in finished drinking water
The product concentration describes the solution in the bottle. It must be distinguished from the concentration in properly treated water. The notification data sheet specifies 3.0 g/kg, whereas the supplied label artwork states 3 g/litre. These units are not treated as interchangeable without verification.
This article provides no drop-count, mixing or drinking dosage. It replaces neither a complete set of instructions appropriate to the specific product nor the required monitoring of a water-treatment process.
Distinguishing water treatment from MMS and health-related ingestion
Germany's Federal Institute for Risk Assessment warns against taking Miracle Mineral Supplement (MMS). The sodium-chlorite-and-acid combination it describes can release chlorine dioxide. A blanket claim that chlorine dioxide has chemically “nothing to do with MMS” would therefore be misleading. The distinction discussed here concerns technical use, not a supposedly different active substance. Source: BfR opinion No. 025/2012
Natur Total presents the product described here as a disinfectant, not as food, a dietary supplement or a treatment for disease. No therapeutic claims, ingestion courses or “detox” applications are recommended. Use for water disinfection does not imply a recommendation to ingest the solution for health purposes.
Hazard and precautionary information
Warning: Causes serious eye irritation (H319). The supplied safety data sheet classifies the mixture as Eye Irrit. 2. Keep out of reach of children. Wear protective gloves and eye or face protection, and wash hands thoroughly after handling.
In case of eye contact, rinse cautiously with water for several minutes, remove contact lenses if present and easy to do, and continue rinsing. If irritation persists, seek medical advice. Ensure adequate ventilation and do not inhale vapours. Store tightly closed in the original container in a cool place, protected from light, heat and frost. Prevent entry into drains or waterways and dispose of the product in accordance with official requirements.
Basis for this summary: safety data sheet dated 6 September 2022, sections 2, 4, 7 and 13. Consult the complete safety data sheet appropriate to the product actually supplied before handling it.
Document dates and clarification still required
The supplied label artwork names “Natriumchlorid” (sodium chloride) as the starting material, whereas the notification data sheet names “Natriumchlorit” (sodium chlorite). These terms are not silently substituted. A documented manufacturer clarification is required regarding the discrepancy, the actual manufacturing route and consistency of the affected batches. This article is not based on a signed clarification of those points.
The document dates must also be distinguished: the notification confirmation is from 2026, while the supplied safety data sheet has a 2022 revision date. A more recent year in a filename does not constitute a documented revision. The ingredient listing in section 3 of a safety data sheet is not analytical evidence that an unlisted substance is completely absent.
Conclusion
Public sources document the technical use of chlorine dioxide in drinking-water treatment. Assessment of the specific product remains a separate matter requiring consistent labelling, appropriate instructions and substantiated product documentation. This article provides context; it does not replace an official assessment or a sales channel's decision.
