Saying that shilajit has been studied in men does not yet establish whether it makes sense for your symptoms. An objective decision requires the study group, preparation and actual outcome to match the question being asked.
What the well-known testosterone study investigated
Pandit and colleagues investigated purified shilajit in healthy men aged 45 to 55. After 90 days, total and free testosterone and DHEAS were higher than with placebo. The paper appeared online in 2015 and in its journal issue in 2016. [1]
This is an investigation of hormone measurements in a particular group. It does not establish a general claim that every commercial product treats medically diagnosed testosterone deficiency. Better erections or a successful pregnancy are also not equivalent to changes in these blood measurements.
| Question | Required context | What is insufficient |
|---|---|---|
| Has a laboratory value changed? | Measurement conditions and comparison group | An experience report without traceable values |
| Is a disease present? | Symptoms and appropriate medical assessment | A single symptom |
| Does a particular everyday limitation improve? | An appropriately investigated outcome | Only the direction of a hormonal change |
| Does the study match the package? | Matching preparation and use | The shared name shilajit |
Symptoms are not yet a hormonal diagnosis
In its July 16, 2026 statement, the Endocrine Society emphasizes that symptoms alone do not diagnose hypogonadism. Relevant symptoms together with repeatedly and reliably low hormone measurements are required. [2] This concerns diagnosis, not a recommendation for shilajit.
Someone who feels persistently exhausted should therefore not start by deriving a cause from a product review. A clear concern such as changed exercise tolerance is more useful for assessment than deciding in advance that a particular supplement is missing.
Define the benefit more precisely
As a consultation aid, record which change has occurred and since when, what findings are available and which medicines or supplements are used. The aim is not to measure every everyday fluctuation, but to provide an understandable description.
A hypothetical example: someone reads about higher testosterone measurements and automatically expects better training performance. That connection would need investigation of its own. The study link alone does not bridge the gap between the hormone measured and the performance desired.
Do not equate research preparations with every commercial product
A purified study preparation and a product with additional ingredients are not identical solely because of their name. Check composition, reference serving and traceable quality information. This article confirms no equivalence between a Natur Total product and the material investigated.
Do not independently discontinue existing treatment. With illnesses or medicines, deciding for or against an additional preparation belongs in individual advice, not a blanket male-optimization plan.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a testosterone study of shilajit?
Yes. The paper cited investigated hormone measurements in healthy middle-aged men.
Does it prove treatment of every testosterone deficiency?
No. The group and research question were narrower.
Are fatigue or reduced desire a diagnosis on their own?
No. Symptoms need assessment in the appropriate medical context.
Does the result automatically apply to every shilajit package?
No. Preparation and use need comparison.
