Drostanolone is probably one of the most well-known steroids on the market. This substance is known for its dehydrating effect and its ability to increase muscle density. In addition, it suppresses aromatase, which is what makes it so popular.
How does drostanolone work?
The structure of the dihydro-testosterone derivative means that drostanolone cannot be converted into estrogen in the body by the aromatase enzyme. This in turn means that the user does not experience any estrogen-related side effects such as water retention or gynecomastia. The aspects of Masteron with regard to estrogen that are interesting for users are only now taking place. Anyone who looks into the original medical use of drostanolone will quickly find out that drostanolone was not only used to build up body tissue, but that it was also used as a drug for the treatment of various types of breast cancer in women.
The original name of drostanolone is Masteron. It is no coincidence that the syllable "mast" appears both in Masteron and in the term mastectomy, i.e. the surgical removal of female breast glands. The active ingredient drostanolone is used in the areas of application of Masteron when this substance triggers the aromatization - i.e. the conversion into estrogen - of the body's own testosterone. This is done by reducing the aromatase enzyme, which is caused by the oxygen-supplied aromatizing anabolic androgenic steroid.
It is assumed that drostanolone also interacts with estrogens. This happens in such a way that drostanolone initially blocks the estrogen receptors and then reduces the effect of the estrogen. For a user, this means that using drostanolone reduces other anabolic androgenic steroids and thus also reduces their side effects. This means that it is probably possible to avoid using additional aromatase inhibitors such as Arimidex or tamoxifen as estrogen blockers. Effects, side effects and interactions of drostanolone Contrary to theoretical assumptions, the anabolic androgenic steroid drostanolone has a more androgenic effect than the rating, which theoretically assumes an androgenic effect of testosterone of 25 to 40 percent.
This means advantages for the user, as androgens promote alipolyse and thus increase the number of androgen receptors in the fatty tissue. This promotes fat loss. The androgens also increase aggression, which, together with a low-calorie diet, can have a positive effect on training intensity. The adverse side effects of androgens are oily skin and acne, as well as an acceleration of already significant hair loss. Finasteride (Proscar) as a reductase inhibitor can counteract these androgen-related side effects.
Basically, the main application of drostanolone is in diet and competition preparation. Due to the non-estrogenic effect of drostanolone as an anti-estrogen, its enormous fat burning promotion and also its androgenic effect, drostanolone has a reputation for quickly supporting a hard and defined appearance with an already low body fat percentage.
The effect is often enhanced with non-aromatizing anabolic androgenic steroids. These are Winstrol (Stanozolol), Tranbolone Acetate, Promobolan (Meonolone) as well as Oxandrolone and Halotestin (Fluoxymesterone). Testosterone propionate is usually used in addition to Drostanolone because Drostanolone alone suppresses the body's own testosterone production. The use of this roid is not limited exclusively to competition preparation.
Together with the so-called mass steroids such as Dianabol (methandienone/methandrostenolone) and testosterone as well as Deca Durabolin (nandrolone decanoate) and Anapolon (oxymetholone), Masteron is also used to build high-quality muscle mass without unwanted fat and water retention.
This means that drostanolone enhances the anabolic effects of other active ingredients and at the same time reduces the estrogenic side effects of the steroids.
