Gotu kola is not the name of a guaranteed rejuvenating cream. It refers to the plant Centella asiatica. A cosmetic decision needs clarity about the formula offered and the outcome it is intended to achieve.
What a small scar study investigated
A 2018 study compared Centella cream with placebo at skin-graft donor sites. Thirty people enrolled and 23 completed assessment. Application began only after the skin surface had re-formed. Pigmentation changes suggested possible benefit; participant numbers and observation time limit the conclusion. [1]
This does not authorize applying any cream to open wounds. Nor does investigating particular scars establish general removal of wrinkles or scars by every Centella preparation.

Observe tolerance in an organized way
The American Academy of Dermatology recommends testing new skin care on a small area over several days. If a reaction develops, wash the product off and discontinue it. Such a test is not a professional allergy diagnosis. [2]
As an organizational aid, photograph the label and note when a new product was introduced. Avoid changing the cream, cleanser and several serums simultaneously where possible. Otherwise, a later reaction becomes harder to attribute.
Assess topical care separately from ingestion
A cream does not become better studied because the same plant is also offered in capsules. Application, composition and goals differ. The scar trial therefore does not recommend skin care from within.
Open, painful or conspicuously changing skin areas need appropriate examination more than another product experiment. Raw plant powder and homemade tinctures are not recommended here for wound treatment. Do not independently replace existing care.
