A homemade bread spread needs a suitable base, seasoning and a spreadable texture. Our recipe idea uses already cooked chickpeas, avoiding the soaking and cooking steps needed for dried ones. Canned or jarred legumes are usually precooked and ready to use; follow the particular package. [1]
Recipe idea: a small bowl of chickpea cream
| Ingredient | Amount | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Precooked, drained chickpeas | 150 g | Do not substitute raw seeds that have only been soaked |
| Tahini | 1 tablespoon | Contains sesame; do not use with a relevant allergy |
| Lemon juice | 1 tablespoon | For flavor, not preservation |
| Olive oil | 1 teaspoon | Choose according to taste |
| Drinking water | 1–3 tablespoons | Add gradually to adjust texture |
| Salt, cumin or paprika | A little to taste | Adjust seasoning at the end |
Blend the chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice and oil with one tablespoon of water initially. Gradually add more liquid until spreadable, then season to taste. A brief refrigerated rest can fit your preparation schedule; this recipe idea does not require a specified resting period.
Variations without complicated shopping
For a different flavor, try precooked white beans as the base and season with a little washed, finely chopped culinary herbs. The amount of water needed may differ. Simple herb quark is another, non-vegan option: stir plain quark with a little water until smooth and season with suitable herbs.
Use only reliably identified or clearly labeled herbs. Blending an unknown wild plant does not make it a suitable ingredient. Nut and seed butters must also fit individual tolerance.
Freshly prepared does not automatically mean long-lasting
Prepare a manageable batch, transfer leftovers to a clean closed container and refrigerate promptly. BfR recommends a refrigerator temperature no higher than seven, preferably below five degrees Celsius. Use clean utensils for serving. [2]
This recipe idea is not a validated preservation method. Lemon juice or a layer of oil does not justify room-temperature storage. No fixed shelf life is guaranteed for every kitchen and ingredient combination; small batches used promptly are simpler to manage.
