Glucosamine sulfate – what is it?

Glucosaminsulfat – was ist das?
Injuries caused by accidents and overloading of the horses' joints, as well as chronic joint diseases, are difficult to treat. They usually require long-term therapy to achieve treatment success. Unlike the muscles, the ligaments, tendons and joints of horses have little blood supply. It is therefore important that the joints in particular are optimally supported in order to be able to cope with the demands of sport.

Glucosamine sulfate is ideal for preventative protection of ligaments, cartilage, tendons and hooves.

What Glucosamines Are and How They Work

Glucosamine sulfate is an essential component of connective tissue. It is needed for the construction of tendons, ligaments and cartilage. The body produces it itself from glucose and glutamic acid. Glucosamine is an amino sugar and is a component of the substances in the body that are able to absorb and store synovial fluid.

They are also a component of the connective tissue that enables the formation of bone and cartilage structures. Glucosamine sulfate is a biochemical substance that is required for the production of joint cartilage and synovial fluid. These substances are known in technical terms as glycosaminoglycans. They are mucopolysaccharides, which also include chondroitin sulfate.

Glucosamine sulfate enables the cartilage bodies, which serve as joint connections, to constantly produce new substance and thus regenerate.

A very effective glucosamine sulfate can be extracted from the shells of crabs and shrimps. The animals' bodies can utilize the naturally obtained glucosamine sulfate better than chemically produced glucosamine sulfate. The synthetically produced glucosamine sulfate costs less. But it has been proven that most of it is excreted unused.

What is degenerative joint disease?

In a degenerative joint disease, cartilage and synovial fluid are broken down excessively due to the loss of proteoglycan. This leads to wear and tear or erosion of the joint surface. This is then no longer smooth and even, but uneven and rough. This process is also known as arthritis and arthrosis.

A number of enzymes are now known that play a role in the breakdown and renewal of joint cartilage and joint capsule. If this normal process is out of balance, the joint capsule becomes thinner. This causes the joint parts to rub against each other. As a result, the joints become painful and swollen and hot.

What causes joint disease?

In horses, joint disease develops due to constant overstraining of the joints, which is the case in racehorses, trotters and show jumpers due to intensive training. The aging process in horses also contributes to joint disease because the loss of proteoglycan weakens the collagen structure. There are also cases of joint disease (bone spavin and coffin bone ligament) whose cause is hereditary.
If the horses are in generally poor condition, this can also lead to the development of joint disease.

How Glucosamine Sulfate Works

Glucosamine is an aminoglucose that is important for the production of cell structures for the construction of cartilage, bones, tendons and muscles. Glucosamine is indispensable for the repair of already damaged joints. Glucosamine promotes the formation of hyaluronic acid, which is important for synovial fluid. Glucosamine strengthens the cartilage in the joint. It improves the regeneration of cartilage and joint function.

In addition, glucosamine sulfate has no side effects whatsoever - even with long-term use. It can be used for prophylaxis without any concerns.

The positive features at a glance

• Glucosamine sulfate stimulates the formation of new articular cartilage and new lubricants
• Glucosamine sulfate prevents wear and tear on the articular cartilage and improves the lubrication of the joints
• Glucosamine sulfate helps improve the elasticity of the articular cartilage
• Glucosamine sulfate reduces pain and inflammation

The pure substance and its advantages

Glucosamine sulfate has almost no taste of its own and is easily absorbed by the body. It is easy to administer to horses. The complete absorption allows the administered dose to have an optimal effect. The horse's liver and kidneys are not affected even with long-term use.

Glucosamine sulfate has a very good price-performance ratio and is indispensable for increasing the performance of horses. Glucosamine sulfate can be administered for an unlimited period of time. Unlike painkillers, it has no side effects whatsoever.
