Globules are small, sugary globules that serve as a carrier for homeopathic active ingredients. The term "globules" comes from Latin and means "little globules". They usually consist of sucrose (cane sugar) and are available in various potencies - i.e. degrees of dilution. In homeopathy, it is believed that the substances must be diluted and "potentiated" in a certain way in order to develop their effect.
The basic idea behind the globules goes back to the principles of homeopathy, an alternative medical healing art that was developed at the end of the 18th century by the German doctor Samuel Hahnemann. Hahnemann postulated the principle of "Similia similibus curentur" ("Like cures like"), which states that a substance that triggers certain symptoms can alleviate exactly those symptoms in homeopathic form.
